Create a free Apple Mail signature with your logo
Enter your details, pick a template and copy the signature. EmailSign hosts your logo and photo: Apple Mail loads them from the web, with no attachment.
Hi Sophie,
Please find the quote attached. I am available to discuss it this week.

Add a signature in Mail on a Mac
Mail > Settings > Signatures
- 1Open Mail, choose Mail > Settings in the menu bar and the Signatures tab.
- 2Pick your account on the left and click the plus sign.
- 3Untick "Always match my default message font": otherwise Mail strips the formatting.
- 4Paste your signature in the right column (Cmd+V).
- 5At the bottom, choose it under "Choose Signature" for that account.
Install an HTML signature with logo on a Mac (locked-file method)
If pasting loses the logo or the layout, replace the signature file directly. Mail rewrites it every time it opens, so the file must be locked.
- 1Create a placeholder signature in Mail (see above), then quit Mail.
- 2In Finder, open Mail's Signatures folder in your user Library. The exact path depends on your macOS version and iCloud Drive: look for the most recent .mailsignature file.
- 3Open it in TextEdit, keep the first header lines and replace everything after the blank line with the HTML copied from EmailSign ("Copy HTML" button).
- 4Save, then File > Get Info, and tick Locked.
- 5Reopen Mail: the signature shows up with its logo.
Add a signature on iPhone and iPad
Settings > Apps > Mail > Signature
- 1Open EmailSign in Safari on the iPhone (or email the signature to yourself) and copy the signature.
- 2Go to Settings, Apps, Mail, Signature. On older versions: Settings, Mail, Signature.
- 3Choose All Accounts or Per Account, clear the existing text and paste.
- 4If the formatting jumps, shake the iPhone and tap "Undo Change Attributes": iOS restores the original formatting.
On iPhone the logo does not always stick. If so, keep a text signature on mobile and the full version on your Mac.
Apple Mail signature: common problems
A question mark instead of the logo
The image could not load: it is not online, or loading remote content is turned off. Use a hosted image, like EmailSign's.
Logo too big or blurry
Mail shows the image at full size when no dimensions are written in the HTML. Our templates set width and height, and EmailSign resizes the logo on upload.
The signature disappears or reverts
With the HTML method, Mail rewrote the file: check that it is locked. If iCloud Drive syncs Mail, edit the signature on one Mac only.
Sync signatures across devices
Between Macs signed in to the same iCloud account, Mail signatures can sync. Between Mac and iPhone they do not: set the signature up on each device.
At a glance: signatures in Apple Mail
| Device | Menu | Logo and formatting | Sync |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mac | Mail > Settings > Signatures | Yes | Between Macs via iCloud |
| iPhone, iPad | Settings > Apps > Mail > Signature | Partial | Per device |
Frequently asked questions
How do I add an image to my Apple Mail signature?
Use a hosted image: create the signature in EmailSign, copy it and paste it in Mail, Settings, Signatures on the Mac. If the logo is lost, use the locked-file HTML method.
Why is my Apple Mail signature image too big?
No width and height are written in the HTML, so Mail shows the image at full size. EmailSign templates set both.
Why does my logo show a question mark?
The image could not load: it is not online or remote content is blocked. Use a hosted PNG or JPG.
How do I use an HTML signature in Apple Mail?
Create a placeholder signature, quit Mail, replace the content of the .mailsignature file with your HTML in TextEdit, then lock the file.
How do I sync Apple Mail signatures across devices?
Macs on the same iCloud account can share signatures. iPhone and iPad keep their own, so paste your signature on each.
